All intensive care nurses, maternity nurses, emergency department nurses etc. seeking employment in Australia must apply for a Licence to Practice before a position can be offered. It is recommended that you commence the application process 8 to 12 months prior to your intended arrival date in Australia.
Registration of all Nurses and Midwives for all States and Territories in Australia is now overseen by the new national Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia - Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Intensive care nurses and midwives will need to contact the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) in relation to all registration matters. Initial registration application forms are available online from the AHPRA website on the Nursing and Midwifery Board page.
